For 35 years I wanted one and I finally got it. But it lacks of quality control. I had to open it in order to fix one eye that was rubbing against the bracket. It still makes clonking noises because the eyes hinges are too loose for the pivoting shaft. A better built and a better quality control were a nice addition.

To try telling how adorable this clock is, especially in the mini size, and how much he makes all of us at work smile (he is on the wall in our office) would be a lengthy story. But this was a birthday gift I gave my co worker, and we all love it so much!
I was worried due to other reviews, that it might not work properly, as it’s stated several times to be made of very cheap plastic – which it is – however,
I was careful handling it when placing the batteries inside, and putting it on the wall. Once up in place,
“Felix” happily started swishing his tail and moving his big eyes back & forth, and works like a charm.
He’s kept perfect time so far, and I am sooo glad
I took the chance on this fun, unique little clock!!!

It’s now been over 9 months since my initial impression and review made when I first received this clock as a gift. My initial impression of 9 months ago was of a flimsy product not worth the price and that wouldn’t last even 3 months. Well, I’m happy to say that I was wrong.
I guess being a cultural icon has it’s high price, in this case $60. Anyhow, I don’t know if the review editing feature will reflect my ratings changes, but I’ve changed the star ratings according to my experience with this product. Durability is now a 4, raised from a 1. NOT because it’s durable in the traditional sense of being sturdy, it’s actually quite fragile and must be handled with care. I raised it because it’s still going strong with no signs of quiting, and keeps better time than some other clocks in the house.
Every now and then,it tilts a tiny bit just like any wall hanging and stops. The imbalance messes up the perpetual motion pendulum. I (carefully) make sure the battery connections are stable, straighten it out on the wall, tap the tail, and she’s off and ticking.
I added an educational rating this time, choosing a 4 as this clock is fun for kids and more likely to keep their interest in learning to tell time than your standard clock.
I also raised the fun rating to 4, from a 1. While far from my taste, it’s surprising how quickly you get used to, and even fond of, this critter. We’ve had fun telling stories about it and playing games following the eyes. Held the cat’s interest for a few days, too, which was very funny. We’ll be moving soon and are getting rid of a lot of stuff. This little beasty, however, will be coming with us.
I’m choosing to keep the original edit I posted following the original negative one: “Just after posting the negative review, I found and read the accompanying materials sent with the clock beyond the assembly instructions that I’d already read through. I am, therefore, posting this POSITIVE review addendum.
The company that makes these boasts a surprising guarantee of ONE FULL YEAR. That’s amazing for something like this so they must feel very confident that it’s looks of being flimsy are deceiving and the quality is better than it appears. The supporting paperwork also had numerous tips on how to make minor repairs oneself as needed. Additionally, they also have in large bold letters both a customer support website, and a customer support phone number guaranteed staffed by a live person if those fixes aren’t enough.
Again, amazing for something like this. There’s a lot to be said for such customer support and a company guarantee like this. Big expensive appliances don’t get that good a guarantee. I feel a lot better about the future of this gadget now than when I posted my original impressions of it and have raised my initial rating accordingly.”

The only regret I have is not ordering the larger one. I LOVE HIM!
Old and in the way –
This guy’s smaller than the one grannie had or the one I bought back in the 90s, but it’s all I could find without lots of searching. Plus, this little feller cost $50! He does look kinda small on the wall we put him on.
This is not a clock that I expect to keep perfect time. That’s what phone, computer and atomic clocks are for. Be forewarned though that it makes a ticktocking noise, which ain’t so good for those sleepless nights. But we have him in the kitchen where it’s charming and not annoying.
I also recall that the plastic is a bit brittle and may break if it falls off the wall. I think the eye mechanism broke on the one I used to have. I still used it, but one more fall was it’s last life.

This item is poorly made because the tail didn’t wag, no matter what we tried. We followed the instructions, changed the battery, mounted it on the wall, but the tail barely wagged. We called the company’s phone, and they won’t answer the phone any more.
They said on the voice mail to watch the videos instead. They advised to leave a message and our email address and they’ll get back to us. That was Friday afternoon at about 3 PM here on the west coast. No response.
They are just up the freeway from us about 20 minutes away in Fullerton, California, Orange County. We could have driven up there in person within a half hour and it would have taken less time than i spent fooling around with instructions, batteries and videos.
We ordered a replacement item and are returning the original purchase. Perhaps we will receive an operational replacement, but it gets me wondering if the motion aspect will work, and for how long?
It’s a disappointment generally, but even more so, as it is made here in the U.S.A. Shameful that the company spends so much effort with fixit videos instead of improving the manufacturing process to produce a better quality product in the first place.
Now, they’ve shut off their phones. That’s not a solution. Someone there is asleep at the switch if they can’t figure out after all these years how to improve the product quality instead of offering 50 different colors.
We have no choice. Our 5 year-old granddaughter saw it, and had to have it. So we’ve got no choice. Even if we have to buy 5 of them to get one to work property, if that’s what we have to do.
One star is our rating on this item for all the reasons mentioned above.
Maybe by some weird miracle we’re wrong about this. If so, i’ll retract my scathing review. Let’s see…
UPDATE:
Well, the replacement arrived today, the next day after re-ordering. Fast turnaround.
The tail works on this one, but the minute hand falls off at the slightest touch. No good. I looked up the FAQs on the website and followed instructions on hands falling off, and that didn’t work either. It keeps falling off and won’t stay attached to the stem.
Returning the replacement, too. Amazon won’t replace the replacement. So, we’re going to purchase one from a clock shop where we can check out the operability first hand without shipping delays or returns. Poor quality and careless quality control is my conclusion. I wonder how long a good one will last… We’ll see i guess over time, if we find one that works.
UPDATE:
We ended up purchasing the large, original, clock from a local small business clock shop. It worked perfectly. Our granddaughter is thrilled. We’re relieved.
